All-New 2020 Kia Telluride Revealed

Kia has been teasing making a large, three-row SUV since it revealed the Telluride concept at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show. Now, the automaker is fulfilling that promise by revealing the all-new 2020 Kia Telluride at Brandon Maxwell’s New York Fashion Week show earlier this month.

2020 Kia Telluride

“Telluride summits Kia’s SUV lineup and forged a surprising new path with its runway debut at New York Fashion Week,” said Saad Chehab, vice president of marketing communications, Kia Motors America. “Only a brand as forward-thinking as Kia could collaborate with Brandon Maxwell to launch the Telluride ahead of its official debut at the North American International Auto Show in January.”

Though it will not premiere officially until January, Kia has given us a lot to chew on with respect to the Telluride. This large, eight-passenger SUV will be several inches larger than the Sorento; will feature a new V6 engine; and will be built right here in the United States in West Point, Georgia.

The version that premiered at New York Fashion Week was a one-of-one version designed by Maxwell. It features custom bumpers, skid plates, and sidestep sills as well as a stylish wood and aluminum roof rack.

Having the Best Fall Bonfire Party

Fall is the best time to have a bonfire. The air is crisp and cool, the warmth of the fire feels nice against your skin, and wrapping yourself in a flannel blanket and roasting marshmallows feels seasonally appropriate. If you want to celebrate the season in style with your family and friends, consider these tips for putting on a great fall bonfire party.

fall bonfire party

Provide blankets

You don’t have to buy a blanket for every person, but having a blanket stand full of cozy choices for guests will make all the difference.

Load up on bug spray

Nothing ruins the mood of a fun outdoor party quite like mosquito bites. Avoid the itch with insect repellent and citronella candles.

Marshmallows and s’mores are a tried-and-true staple of bonfires, as is roasting hot dogs. Mix it up a bit by making popcorn in tinfoil, or even just having snacking alternatives set up on an outdoor table.

Hand wipes

Speaking of s’mores and snacks, prepare for the inevitable sticky fingers by having wipes on hand.

What separates a party from just a plain old get-together? Decorations! Don’t be afraid to go all-out with some tablecloths, paper lanterns, string lights, and anything else you can think of. Best part is, you can get a lot of party decor for cheap through DIY projects or from the dollar store.

2018 Kia Niro Earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+

Not only is the Kia Niro versatile and efficient, but it’s quite safe, too. Proof positive: The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has awarded the 2018 Kia Niro its TOP SAFETY PICK+ after the crossover aced the agency’s crashworthiness and collision mitigation tests.

2018 Kia Niro Earns IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK+

“The Niro is one of our most popular models,” said Orth Hedrick, vice president, product planning, KMA, “and receiving the highest possible safety rating from IIHS provides yet another reason why it should be the top choice for anyone shopping for a small hybrid SUV.”

In order to earn the IIHS’ TSP, a vehicle must score ratings of “Good” in five crashworthiness tests — driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength, and head restraints and seats — and a rating of “Acceptable” or “Good” in the passenger-side small overlap front crash test. It must also earn a score of “Advanced” or “Superior” in terms of front crash prevention and a rating of “Good” in headlights.

The 2018 Kia Rio’s TOP SAFETY PICK+ status brings the number of Kia vehicles to earn TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards from IIHS to nine. To see Kia’s lineup of safe, stylish, and smart vehicles in person, stop into Gossett Kia for a test drive.

Pack some snacks

The occasional stop at a gas station or rest stop is pretty much unavoidable, but you can minimize the amount of times that your journey grinds to a halt by thinking ahead. Instead of stopping off every time someone complains of hunger, have a plethora of healthy snacks and drinks handy. This will keep everyone happy — or at least as happy as they can be on a long drive.

Have things to do

Want to avoid rounds of being asked “are we there yet?” Keep your kids otherwise occupied by bringing plenty of books, games, movies, and music. If you’ll be relying on smartphones or tablets to provide entertainment, make sure that you have the means to keep them fully charged. To help avoid conflict, enforce rules about sharing to make sure that everyone gets a turn.

There are plenty of things that you can do to ease the stress and make your next vacation a breeze. One surefire step is to bring your vehicle into Gossett Kia for a check-up before you take it out into the great wide open.

Queensland Police Enlist 50 Kia Stinger GTs

The Kia Stinger GT has made quite the impression since hitting the market, intimidating the competition with its aggressive looks and formidable performance. It’s now set to start intimidating criminals in Australia, where the Queensland Police Service is adding 50 Kia Stingers to its fleet.

“This is a very important day for us,” Commissioner Ian Stewart told Kia. “We needed a special product to do a job for us, and that is what we have here. A wonderful product.”

The process of bringing the Kia Stinger into the fold for the Queensland Police has been underway since late 2017, and the high-performance sedan has passed with flying colors at every turn.

“It started with the desktop evaluation, then a track performance evaluation and then the operational evaluation conducted in real-world conditions. The final overall evaluation and review included the very important aspect of maintenance and cost. The Stinger performed very well in all areas and we had nothing but top reports from all the field officers,” said Road Policing Command Assistant Commissioner Mike Keating. “The result is a road policing first for us, the first foreign car to perform these duties.”

Queensland Police Minister Mark Ryan said that the decision to opt for the Stinger was helped in part by the critical acclaim that has been heaped upon it since its debut. Already, the Kia Stinger has earned the 2018 Car of the Year Award, was named Best of the Year and Best Sport Sedan in MotorWeek’s 2018 Drivers’ Choice Awards, and was a finalist for the 2018 North American Car of the Year award.

All 50 Stingers are set to head into active duty by December. Meanwhile, other police agencies across Australia are evaluating the Stinger and other Kia vehicles for their own fleet needs.

You don’t need to be an officer of the law to get your very own 2018 Kia Stinger GT — you just have to have an appreciation for all the fun that driving can be. To experience this incredible sport car for yourself, stop into Gossett Kia for a test drive.

A/C or Windows Down: Which Gives Better MPG in the Summer?

During the summer months, one hotly debated topic is whether it’s more efficient to keep the windows down or use the air conditioning. While the A/C typically makes the engine work harder, having your windows down can decrease aerodynamic efficiency. So which is better between the two? The answer, quite simply, is that it depends.

A/C or windows down - Gossett Kia - Memphis, TN

According to Business Insider, there is no easy answer to the A/C vs. windows down debate. While experts can agree that neither is great for gas mileage, there are several factors to keep in mind when determining which of the two is best. This includes the make and model of your car, weather, and the speed you’re travelling. For instance, having the windows down has little effect on fuel economy if you’re going 15 mph. At highway speeds, however, it’s a different story.

Researchers for the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) have performed multiple studies to find the answer. A 2004 study looked at sedans and SUVs at speeds of 31 mph, 50 mph, and 68 mph in 86-degree weather. While it was close, having the windows down was consistently better at all speeds than running the air conditional.

For an SUV, the results are starker. Having the windows down rather than using the air conditioning will save you a considerable amount on fuel costs. The team at the Mythbusters television series also tested this problem and found similar results.

Ultimately, if the Memphis weather gets hot enough, the correct answer to the debate between A/C or windows down is likely to be whatever keeps you feeling coolest. If you want to look cool, you’ll want to get behind the wheel of a new Kia, and you can start your journey in that direction by stopping into Gossett Kia for a test drive.

How to Prepare Your Car for Summer

Hot summer weather puts its own set of demands on your vehicle, and you want to make sure that you prepare your vehicle so it can be ready to meet them. Here are a few suggestions on how to prepare your car for summer.

Prepare Your Car for Summer - Gossett Kia - Memphis, TN

  1. Keep the heat down: In the summer, your cooling system is of the utmost importance. Before the hot weather hits, you should check the radiator for leaks or breakage, and make sure that you have adequate amounts of coolant. While driving in the heat, you’ll also want to keep an eye on the engine temperature gauge. If you force your car to drive while its engine is overheated, you can cause permanent damage.
  2. Check your air conditioning system: Inspect your air conditioning system’s belts, condenser, and fins. You’ll be happy to have this system working in tip-top shape when beastly hot weather hits.
  3. Swap out winter tires for summer tires: If you haven’t swapped out your winter tires yet, it’s essential to do before summer weather kicks into gear. Summer tires are the most efficient choice for the season, but all-season tires are perfectly fine, too—they just won’t perform quite as well as specialized summer tires.
  4. Check your vehicle’s towing equipment: Summer is the time of year that most families will tow their trailer, boat, or other outdoor gear, so you will want to check your vehicle’s towing equipment to make sure it’s in good shape and working as it should.
