Naming your car is a tradition for auto enthusiasts everywhere, and the weirder, the better. We’ve put together a list of the best nicknames in pop culture to give you an idea of how it’s done.

  • Batmobile – Any sleek black car can earn this title if it’s big enough and loaded with high-tech gadgets. Though the Batmobile has been around for years, some of the most popular include Michael Keaton’s in the 1992 Batman Returns, as well as the latest pics from the yet to be released Batman Vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
  • Ecto-1 – Though you might not recognize the name of this model, you’d know it if you saw it. This famous retro model from the 1984 Ghostbusters film has remained one of the most iconic models in cinema.
  • Herbie – Everyone loves this bizarre VW Beetle that has a mind of its own. Premiering in 1968 in The Love Bug, Herbie has made appearances again and again, known far and wide for its red and blue stripes, as well as its No. 53 badging.
  • KITT Knight Rider fans have no doubt monopolized this name for many years. This super-intelligent talking car helps Michael Knight (David Hasselhoff) fight crime. What’s not to love about it?
